From 11 to 15 of August 2019 the Department of General and Emergency Surgery participated in the 48th World Congress of Surgeons (WCS2019), which was in Krakow, Poland. The congress was held by the International Society of Surgeons (ISS) in conjunction with many other international associations: endocrine surgeons, traumatologists , intensive care and resuscitation specialists, bariatric and gastroenterological surgeons, oncologists and plastic surgeons operating on mammary glands and others, including an alliance of surgeons and anesthetists.

Also, at the same time, the 69th Congress of the Association of Polish Surgeons was held. Congress participants had the opportunity to get from 15 to 37 European CME points, depending on the time of participation in the congress. Of the particular interest were the special postgraduate courses of surgeons from academies and universities:

- AAS / WJS / ISS / SIC CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR ACADEMIC SURGEONS COURSE, - Course of emergency abdominal surgery (EMERGENCY ABDOMINAL SURGERY COURSE), Course on oncoplasty and reconstructive surgery of the mammary glands (ONCOPLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE BREAST SURGERY INTERACTIVE COURSE) and other courses.

Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education was represented by Professor of the Department of General and Emergency Surgery, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, member of the International Academy of Medical Sciences  - Evgeny Kolesnikov, who presented there two reports. One report (oral presentation) was dedicated to joint Ukrainian-American research in the surgical treatment of morbid obesity - "MINIINVASIVE BARIATRIC SURGERY AND BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURES IN MORBIDLY OBESE PATIENTS". The report showed the results of the development of a mini-invasive method that has become the "gold standard" for the surgical treatment of obesity in the world.

The second presentation was also devoted to Ukrainian-American studies about the development of methods for the use of mesenchymal stem cells in combination with the surgical treatment of patients who lost weight after bariatric surgery: "THE USAGE OF ALLOGENIC MESENCHYMAL STROMAL CELLS DURING COSMETIC CONTOURING SURGICAL PROCEDURES IN POSTBARIATRIC SURGERY PATIENTS".

Our reports aroused considerable interest of many congress participants from different countries.

Also professor Kolesnikov took the special course for academic surgeons designed for teaching surgery at the academies and universities :   AAS / WJS / ISS / SIC CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR ACADEMIC SURGEONS COURSE.
